Heat is the enemy
A pack left on a dashboard in July ages faster than one that's been used all day. Let a hot pack cool before charging, and keep spares out of the sun.
Don't store them empty
Store packs partly charged, not flat. A pack that sits empty for a season may not come back.
Test before you replace
Half the dead packs we see are fine; the charger failed. Bring both and we'll test them at the counter.
