Compressor won't build pressure
Four checks to make before you bring a compressor in, and what each one points to.
From the bench at JC Tools, San Jose ·
Check the drain and the fittings first
A tank drain that didn't close all the way, or a cracked coupler, loses more air than most people expect. Soapy water on the fittings finds it.
Listen at the pump
Air hissing from the intake while it runs means a reed valve. Air hissing from the head means a gasket. Either one is a bench job, and both are routine.
If it runs but never shuts off
The pressure switch has drifted or failed. It's a quick swap and we stock them for the compressors we sell.
If it trips the breaker
Start capacitor or a pump that needs oil. Don't keep resetting the breaker. Bring it in.
